What to do
The golden sandy beaches, pure Atlantic waters and the sharp coastal landscape with magnificent cliffs make the beaches around Praia das Maçãs a haven for fun and pleasure.
Apart from the traditional bathing and swimming there are a lot of activities you can do on and around the beach.
The Atlantic waves formed here attract a great number of local surfers, bodyboarders and skimmers, as well as the World Bodyboard Tour and Surf Championships at Praia Grande and the World Windsurfing Competition at Gincho.
The cliffs provide great jumping points for paragliding and all along the coast you can practice sports fishing and diving.
Golf is available at several places less than half an hour driving distance such as the internationally acclaimed Penha Longa, Quinta da Beloura, and Quinta da Marinha courses. There are several courses around Sintra, of 6, 9 and 18 holes and these have been designed by acclaimed landscape designers. All levels of difficulty are present, up to the highest International competition level. The climate in this region allows for golfing to be available all year round.
You can also go horse-riding, mountain-biking or hiking in the hills of Sintra.
There are a few marked hiking trails for all abilities from a gentle stroll to a more ambitious breathtaking climb.
We also offer you the chance to rent bikes from us to go and explore the surrounding countryside with excellent views of the Serra and the Palace and Castle nested on its tops.
