Casal de Santa Maria

Casal de Santa Maria is a spacious 6 bedroomed traditional portuguese Villa situated just 350m from the sandy beach and the centre of Praia das Maçãs. With a large patio/barbecue area with gardens and lawn, has been stylishly decorated and furnished. Perfect for large family groups or friends.

Originally built as a summer retreat for a large Lisbon family, it is set in its own private grounds and boasts a family-sized pool (solar-warmed), large patio/barbeque area, lawn plus pool changing room. The villa can comfortably accommodate 12 people in 3 double bedrooms, 2 with ensuite facilities and 3 twins, 1 ensuite. 2 bedrooms have direct access to a large sun terrace with panoramic views to the coast and hills. 2 extra baby cots are also available at request.

The spacious entrance hall leads to the large double family lounge with comfy designer sofas, a table and chairs, traditional decorated with object d’art. For your enjoyment – sound and vision equipment are as follows: large LCD TV, satellite decoder with 250 channels (including BBC 1 and 2, ITV, and Channel 4); Multimedia player with speakers and a powerful subwoofer providing a full and rich cinema sound – this state of the art system plays DVDs, CDs, has a USB reader, radio and Apple iPod docking station so you can bring all your favorite music and movies with you. Broadband wireless internet is available (free of charge) – works throughout the entire house and gardens so you can stay in touch with the world via email, or make your friends jealous by sending them your holiday photos!

French doors open out onto small patio with seating area overlooking lawn. There is also a large separate dining room.

A fully-kitted kitchen/utility and breakfast room - all decorated to high standard in a fusion of traditional and modern taste are off to the side of the main hallway.

The downstairs layout is completed by a private one double bedroom with en-suite bathroom (formally the maid's room) and a separate master bathroom.

On the first floor we have 5 bedrooms, all of which open on to a large landing area.

Two bedrooms with modern en-suite shower rooms (one double, one twin), open on to a 25 sq. m sun terrace with stunning views - to the Sintra hills in the east, south across the green river valley and west, to the sea and sandy beach, making the balcony an all day sun trap.

The second double room has a small balcony (6 sq. m) overlooking the lawn and with a sea view to the setting sun in the west. The 2 other twins are on the east side and get the early morning sun. All twin rooms share a separate shower room with WC and the master bathroom downstairs.

Enjoy wonderful views over to the sea and hills from the patio area and private kidney-shaped swimming pool approx. 7 x 5m (which is warmed by excess hot water from the solar-power system if available). Sun shades, loungers, chairs and tables are provided for relaxing by the pool. There is an outside changing room with wash basins, shower and toilet. Built-in barbeque allows guests to enjoy al fresco patio dining. There is also a poolside cold shower.

At the front, pretty garden has a large lawn for relaxation and recreation, shaded in the afternoon by the house and trees.

Within 5 minutes walking distance of Casal de Santa Maria is the Lido with its Olympic-sized swimming pool with water slides; a children's playground; Tennis courts and 5-a-side pitch. Across the road is the covered morning market selling everything from fresh fish, vegetables, freshly grilled chicken to beachwear and toys. The fabulous fine sandy beach (supervised by lifeguards in the summer season); the tram terminus to Sintra; All the main fish restaurants, brasseries and cafes - some overlook the beach, with sea views west to the setting sun. A pizza restaurant, bakers and a fine butcher (just around the corner from the centre) - everything you will need for a wonderful holiday.

The games room

New to the summer of 2009 is the games room at Casal de Santa Maria. We have prepared a few of everyone's favourites to help make your stay with us all the more special.
A full sized ping-pong table and competition quality dart board will delight both adults and youngsters.

For the outdoors there is a target golf set for children and big kids alike to practice their chipping skills.

And a fantastic full width, height adjustable net, that can be set high for adult badminton and volley ball...

...or set low for children’s badminton.

All the bats, balls, darts, clubs, shuttlecocks, etc. are provided.
